A group of students petitioning Lindenwood University to sanction a Gay Straight Alliance on campus has received a rejection.
Lindenwood called the group “rather parochial and doesn’t offer a benefit to the campus community.” It said “gsa has been known for being a club that promotes a certain agenda.” Lindenwood says it would like the members to consider a social justice alliance that could deal with race, religion, sexual orientation and other issues that face frequent scrutiny.
Here are the videos of the meeting that took place Wednesday February 10th in Young Hall. Human Resources Director Dr. Boyle and Graduate Student Jack Sago met prior to meeting to craft the following proposal and it is presented in this video.

The proposal was to create a “Spectrum Alliance” which appears to read more like a diversity catch-all club than a true GSA. The new club’s mission boasts it’s for the education of social justice issues – including GLBT, the disabled and other student issues that need attention. (They use the term “the Disabled.”)
The 50 in attendance comprised mostly of students, but included some teachers, staff and community members. A handful who attended this meeting raised an issue to the name change but in the end, the HR Director convinced the bulk of the body to accept the new name strictly out of “acceptance” to move on.
What was most disappointing was the complete acceptance of continuing homophobia and gender discrimination merely based on Lindenwood University’s history of oppression. To hear students, faculty and even the HR Director himself admit that “5 years ago Lindenwood Admin would of fired (and/or kicked out) gay students for even suggesting” they receive equal protections in forming a Gay Straight student organization.
It’s too bad Lindenwood students didn’t take a cue and follow John Carroll University LGBTQ students who also had their College promote hate.
